Pre-Kindergarten Program...We are an educational program that offers our children a hands on approach to learning. Our children learn “pre-skills” which lay the ground work for the future. Part of this ground work includes small-group time, large-group time, and transition times. Group times are an opportunity to introduce new materials, activities, and concepts. The teacher introduces children to new materials and activities, which the children can then continue to explore at work time. New skills and concepts are often the focus of a group activity. Group times also offer social opportunities to children. Group times grow from children’s interests as well as the curriculum’s content areas. Group times are also the parts of the day when learning that need to by systematic and sequenced – such as specific skills and concepts in literacy or mathematics – can be guaranteed for all children. What makes learning fun? What makes a child want to learn? It’s a program like ours. Our safe and enriching program focuses on all aspects of creative learning. Hands on activities encompass exciting weekly themes which include nutrition, cooking, holidays, science, and safety to name just a few. The Pre k students rotate to a variety of learning centers which offer items to help stimulate young imaginative minds. Literacy is introduced with the letter of the week, creative writing, and circle time reading. Calendar time introduces them to the days of the week and months of the year. Patterns, graphing, simple math and science activities are included in the weekly program. Music, movement, and playground times are a favorite part of each day. The children’s art is proudly displayed around the room. Fine motor skills are used daily as they participate in themed take home projects. Their individuality is appreciated and their achievements are applauded. Positive discipline methods are used so the children do not feel singled out or embarrassed. Preparing these young minds for kindergarten is a primary goal of the teachers as they encourage verbal skills, teach self-help skills and promote self assurance. |
