Preschool Program...Preschool Program (3years old) We are an educational program that offers our children a hands on approach to learning. Our children learn “pre-skills” which lay the ground work for the future. Part of this ground work includes small-group time, large-group time, and transition times. Group times are an opportunity to introduce new materials, activities, and concepts. The teacher introduces children to new materials and activities, which the children can then continue to explore at work time. New skills and concepts are often the focus of a group activity. Group times also offer social opportunities to children. Group times grow from children’s interests as well as the curriculum’s content areas. Group times are also the parts of the day when learning that need to by systematic and sequenced – such as specific skills and concepts in literacy or mathematics – can be guaranteed for all children. A child’s feeling of independence and social interaction with others is what preschool is all about. During the course of the day, children are encouraged to make choices for themselves, cooperate with others as well as listen and follow directions. During the course of the program, the classroom teachers lead the children in small and large group activities, such as movement, read-a-loud stories, circle time and art activities. The children are encouraged to make friends, share and communicate with their classmates. The children are also prompted to use the bathroom on their own although assistance is given if necessary. In preparation for Pre k, the children work on their hand writing skills, colors, shapes and numbers. |
